Pro Challenge Race Procedures for Mason-Dixon Meltdown
Mid-Race Break Among Aspects to Spice Up Big-Bucks Event
It is the richest race in the history of the Pro Challenge Series, and now a new twist will help spice up the event even further.  Promoters of the “Mason-Dixon Meltdown” at South Boston Speedway on Saturday, November 25th, have announced it will add a mid-race break to the 50-lap, $1,500-to-win event.
The “Meltdown” is being billed as the “All-Star Race” of the season for Pro Challenge.  Thirty starting spots are up for grabs during the one-day extravaganza, which also features PASS Super Late Models, Tour-type Modifieds and Legends Cars on the racing card.

A 10-minute break at lap 30 has been added to the mix to allow competitors to make changes to their machines for the final 20-lap dash.

“We feel it will add a bunch of excitement to the race for the fans, but also allow competitors a second-chance of sorts as well,” said “Meltdown” co-promoter Bob Dillner, who is also a NASCAR television commentator for SPEED.  “For those whose cars were not good during the initial 30 laps, it will enable teams to make changes to help improve their cars for the final laps.  In the end, that will make it even more thrilling for the fans.”

The cars will be stopped on the frontstretch at South Boston Speedway at lap 30.  Teams must keep the same tires on the car in which they qualified with, but any other adjustments to the cars are allowed as long as they are within the guidelines of Pro Challenge rules.  “Meltdown” announcers will be on the track to speak with the drivers.  If requested, drivers must participate in the interviews.  Failure to do so will result in a penalty.
The Pro Challenge competitors are sure to put on a heck of a show at South Boston.
“It’s about entertainment,” added Dillner.  “We want to spread the word about Pro Challenge, and that means allowing the fans to feel like they are involved in the event.  We want them to hear and understand what is going through the drivers minds at that stage of the event.”

To help add more spice to the event itself, a draw for starting position for the top-8 qualifiers will be held on the frontstretch in front of the fans.  Those specific drivers will draw for their starting spots.  The rest of the field will be determined by time trials held earlier that day.

Lap Sponsors are also currently being sought after for the 50-lap race.  Each lap cost $50.  If you wish to sponsor a lap, please contact Diane Litzinger at Pro Challenge (866-323-4315) or send a check or money order to PASS, Attn: Mason-Dixon Meltdown Lap Sponsorship, PO Box 5084, Concord, NC, 28027.
