Legends Car Races on the Card for “Mason-Dixon Meltdown”
INEX-Sanctioned Semi-Pro & Pro/Masters Races Will Race on First Day at SoBo
It may still be four months away, but already the November 24-25 “Mason-Dixon Meltdown” at South Boston Speedway in Virginia is quickly turning into one of the biggest and most diverse Short Track racing weekends of the year.  Both the PASS South Super Late Models and Tour-Type Modifieds will compete during the weekend in two 250 lap events that will each pay $12,500-to-win and $1,000-to-start.  Today, promoters of the Mason Dixon Meltdown have announced that the ultra-popular Legends Cars will compete in twin 50-lap races (one for the Semi-Pro and one combining the Pro and Masters Divisions) for a huge purse to cap off Friday night’s action.
The Semi-Pro 50-lapper will pay $1,250 to the winner, while the Pro/Masters 50-lap event will pay $1,500-to-win.  In addition, the Pro/Masters event will pay an additional $250 to the top-finishing driver in the division that doesn’t take the overall checkers.  If a Pro driver wins the event, the top-finishing Masters driver, regardless of where they finish, will earn an additional $250.  The same applies for a Pro driver should a Masters competitor take the overall checkers.

“The races for the Legends Cars, with the money that’s on the line, will be super exciting,” said SPEED Broadcaster and event co-promoter Bob Dillner.  “The Legends Cars are always fun to watch, but with this big purse, anything can happen.  Cathy Rice and the folks from South Boston Speedway hold Legends races throughout the year and they put on a fine show.  We’re expecting a field of more than a hundred cars to show up for these races.”

The Legends Car events will be sanctioned and officiated by INEX.  INEX is the International
Sanctioning body of the Legends, Bandolero and Thunder Roadster Cars.  It's is the third largest sanctioning body in the country behind NASCAR and IMCA.

The twin 50-lappers will run in a unique format.  The race will run 30-laps, and then be red-flagged.  All of the cars will stop on the frontstretch, where the teams will get a 10-minute break.  The teams will be allowed to then work on their cars, but all work must be done on the frontstretch, in plain view of the fans (more details to follow).  The drivers are encouraged to get out of their cars and help work or to walk to the fence and sign autographs for the fans in attendance.
The Legends cars will practice, run heat races, last chance events and features all on Friday.  Pit passes will be $25 with INEX members getting in for $20 with their membership card.  Grandstand tickets for Friday, which will also include practice and qualifying for the Super Late Models, Modifieds and Pro Challenge Series cars, will be just $15.

“This is going to be a heckuva one day show for both the Legends racers and the fans in attendance,” added Dillner.  “Fans will see side-by-side racing, pitstops on the frontstretch and I am sure, plenty of incidents on the track.  With this money, you will have some of the best Legends racers in the country competing for the big trophy worth big bucks.”

Several other announcements regarding the Legends Car races at the Mason-Dixon Meltdown, including several qualifying races that will lock drivers into the starting lineup will be forthcoming.  The winners of the events will also receive automatic births in the Second Annual Mopar/PRI Sprint & Midget Classic at Orlando SpeedWorld on December 15th.

Legends cars will headline Friday night's events at South Boston.
“We went to South Boston a bunch of years ago with the (NASCAR Modified) Tour.  I always enjoyed racing there and I think we put on a pretty good show.  A lot of fans would come out for those races and I think it would be the exact same this time around.  If the stands aren’t full, I’ll be shocked.  I always thought it was pretty neat because I could remember all of the people in the stands there.  There were people all the way around the outside of the track.  I remember noticing that during the race.   I think the fans will really enjoy it.”

Tickets for the “Mason-Dixon Meltdown” will run $15 for Friday and $40 for Saturday.  A two-day ticket will be available for $50.  More details on the entire event will be coming shortly.
