Complete PASS South Schedule Announced For 2007 Season
Mason-Dixon Meltdown to Be Run At Concord Motorsport Park This Season
The much anticipated 2007 season of the Pro All Stars Series South is just around the corner, and today the series released the official 2007 schedule for the Super Late Model touring division.
The season will consist of eight races, which will once again allow racers to chase for the championship with PASS South while also spending plenty of time racing in several other series around the country. The announcement of the four-state, eight-race schedule is something that PASS South owner Tom Mayberry is very excited about.
“We’ve always wanted to allow our racers to compete with us, but also run in other series around the United States,” said Mayberry, who also owns the ultra-successful PASS North. “There are so many options for Super Late Model drivers in the south. A schedule of eight to ten races is exactly what we want, and we are positioning ourselves for a much stronger future. We’d like to run 10 races in the North and 10 races in the South and eventually have an overall PASS champion. This is just another way we can start working toward that future goal.”
The 2007 PASS South season will start once again at Hickory Motor Speedway on Easter weekend with the running of the Easter Bunny 150 (April 7th). From there, the series will visit one of four new tracks on the slate; the 3/8-mile Anderson Motor Speedway in Anderson, South Carolina. The 125-lap event at Anderson is scheduled for June 2nd.
Freddie Query (#8) and Mike Rowe (#24) were two of the winners from the 2006 PASS South season.
“We’re excited and pumped to have the PASS South cars come into Anderson in June,” said Anderson Motor Speedway’s Sylvia Porter. “I think it will give our fans a nice, mid-season opportunity to see something different with Super Late Models. That is not something our fans are familiar with. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the series. I’ve talked with some of the promoters that had the series last year and they had nothing but great things to say about the series, its officials, drivers and teams. They said everyone was first-class and very professional.”
On June 9th, the series will return to Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina, then head to another new track to the schedule on July 3rd; the ultra-fast Peach State Speedway in Jefferson, GA. On August 4th, the series will return to legendary Lanier National Speedway in Braselton, GA, to once again take part in the “Saturday of Speed,” where they will share the bill with the Georgia Asphalt Series.
Anderson Speedway will host the PASS South cars for the first time in 2007.
“We are really excited to race at all of the facilities we have scheduled in 2007,” added Mayberry. “Going to tracks like Anderson Motor Speedway, Hickory Motor Speedway, Orange County, Lanier National Speedway and Peach State Speedway will really test our drivers’ abilities to run at a number of different tracks. Every single track was hand-picked for a reason, and we’re really excited to get the year going.”
On September 29th, the series will return to Hickory Motor Speedway for the second visit to the track during the 2007 season, then will head to the third new track on the schedule; Shenandoah Speedway in Shenandoah, Virginia. Shenandoah, a 3/8-mile semi-banked track, is one of the newest and most state-of-the-art facilities in all of the entire East Coast.
Finally, the season will once again wrap up with the second-annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown. However, this year, the Meltdown will move closer to the heart of stock car racing country. The 2007 Mason-Dixon Meltdown will be run at Concord Motorsport Park on November 16th-17th.
“We’re really happy to end the season at Concord,” added Mayberry. “Concord is one of those tracks that has a long history with Super Late Models. There have been a lot of good guys that have made their mark there over the years, from Bobby Labonte to Jack Sprague to Bobby Gill to Freddie Query, through the old Big 10 Series. Running the Mason-Dixon Meltdown at the track and crowning the PASS South champion the same weekend will be a huge part of the whole season.”
“Concord Motorsport Park is pleased to welcome the PASS South Super Late Model Series to our track,” said Concord Motorsport Park Sales and Marketing Director Dwight Davies. “It’s really the perfect venue for the series to showcase their drivers and their cars. Concord has a rich history with Super Late Models, and this is a way for us to continue that tradition with a new series that is growing and developing into something strong in the Southeast.”
The inaugural Mason-Dixon Meltdown was a huge success at South Boston Speedway in Virginia. With more than 50 Super Late Models in the pits, PASS does plan to return to the famed Virginia racetrack.
“We already have initial plans in place to race at South Boston in 2008,” said Bob Dillner, who is working with Tom Mayberry to help promote PASS South for a second-straight year. “Cathy Rice and her team are first-class and so is the speedway. In fact, we hope to have an announcement in the next couple months about a big show at SoBo. Tom and I really love South Boston, the area, and the racing it provides, not to mention the famous bologna burgers, and all of those reasons are why we want to return there next year.”
Drivers from Texas to Maine (and just about everywhere in between) took part in the first PASS South season. Veteran racer Mike Rowe, who also raced full-time with the PASS North Super Late Models, held off young Ryan Lawler for the inaugural 2006 PASS South title.
Super Late Models will return to Concord Motorsport Park.
Several marketing partners are also in the works for the coming season, and announcements will be made on those shortly.
Once again, the PASS South Super Late Models will be running with a number of support divisions during the year, including the Georgia Asphalt Series, the Rolling Thunder Modifieds, the Aaron’s Pro Challenge Series and the Redneck Racing Series. More announcements will follow in the coming weeks.
