PASS South’s Debut at Anderson Motor Speedway Just Weeks Away

“South Carolina Clash” Resumes Exciting PASS South Super Late Model Season
When the PASS South Super Late Model Series season opened on Easter Weekend at Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina, many of the drivers in the field knew what they were getting themselves into.  Almost every one of the 28 drivers that started the event had previously had some racing experience at the historic track.

Now, as the PASS South season is set to resume, drivers will face a new challenge, one of a brand new track for a majority of the drivers expected to compete.  The “fast cars and short track stars” of PASS South will hit the 3/8-mile Anderson Motor Speedway on June 2nd for the second-running of the “South Carolina Clash.”  The race will be 125 laps and pay $4,000 to the winner.

“The track is a lot like Hickory from what I’ve been told by people who have driven on both,” said Anderson Motor Speedway’s Sylvia Porter.  “I’ve never been in a racecar, but a lot of people have told me the turns are a little bit tighter than Hickory and the straightaways are a little bit wider.  The turns are banked just a little bit more.”

Anderson Motor Speedway runs a number of divisions on a weekly basis, including Modifieds, Renegades, Mini Stocks and Legends.  The track also holds Late Model Stock events during several weekends throughout the year and also plays host to other Pro Late Model touring races.

An impressive field of Super Late Models are expected at Anderson.
The fact that Late Model Stocks don’t run regularly at the track anymore will give the fans something to really looking forward to when the “South Carolina Clash” takes the green on June 2nd.

“We are very excited.  We are expecting a great race.  I’ve really heard a lot of great things from other promoters about PASS South.  It will really give our fans a chance to see something different in the form of Super Late Models.  We used to run the Late Model Stock cars here weekly, although we only run them on occasion now.  So I think some of our fans are excited to see something on that level and at the same time a little bit different.

“And for anyone that hasn’t been here before, our family has put a lot of effort into the facility.  We have really nice grandstands, really nice restrooms.  We have tried to keep up with the times.  My father has been in this business for about 45 years, so he knows what he is doing.”

PASS South will make their debut at historic Anderson Motor Speedway on June 2nd.
Ryan Lawler won the first PASS South event of the 2007 season by dominating the Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway on Easter weekend.  Lawler was able to beat PASS North regular Ben Rowe, Tim Nooner, Johnny Clark and Dean Clattenburg for the win.

Lawler, Nooner, Clattenburg and the rest of the PASS South stars are expected to return for the “South Carolina Clash,” as is PASS North racer Ben Rowe, who hails from Maine.

“Running at Anderson will be a challenge for a lot of these guys, because from the way I understand it, not a lot of them have raced at Anderson before,” said Tom Mayberry, Owner and President of PASS South.  “We have already had three PASS South races at Hickory, and a lot of our guys have raced there before in other series.  At Anderson, it will be a new track for a lot of them.  Our guys are good enough, though, that they probably shouldn’t have any problems adapting to the track.  It should actually make for a pretty interesting race, to see everyone adapt and get used to the track.”

Action at Anderson is set to begin on Friday night, June 1st, with an optional practice day.  Activities on Saturday start at noon with PASS South practice.  Qualifying is set to go off at 4pm, with heat races and support division features beginning at 6pm.
