Last year, the PASS South Super Late Model Series started a new tradition surrounding big season-ending events, hosting the Mason-Dixon Meltdown at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Virginia on Thanksgiving weekend. The race was a huge success, with a ton of Super Late Models, Tour-Type Modifieds, Pro Challenge cars and Legends Cars packing the pits and giving fans one of the best big shows of the season.
Now, PASS South officials have announced the tradition will continue, with a few changes, to cap off the 2007 PASS South Super Late Model season. The Second-Annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown will now take place on November 16-17 at Concord Motorsport Park in Concord, North Carolina.
Once again, the PASS South Super Late Models will take center stage, with bragging rights and a huge check going to the winner. Last season, a total of 48 Super Late Models tried to make the 33-car starting field, with Maine’s Cassius Clark taking the top honors. This year, things are expected to be even bigger.
“Running this event even closer to the heart of stock car country (in Concord) will only help make the race even bigger,” said Tom Mayberry, owner and promoter of PASS North and PASS South. “Concord is a track that people love to race, but it’s a challenging track as well. It’s fast, it’s challenging and it makes for good racing, especially for Super Late Models.
“Concord is a track with a rich history of Super Late Model racing. There are plenty of guys that have raced there that are some of the best ever. Jack Sprague, Bobby Labonte, Freddie Query and so many others have made a name for themselves at Concord. Several of our top competitors, including Preston Peltier and Dean Clattenburg, got their starts in Super Late Models in the Big 10 Super Late Model Series that used to run at Concord. And the guys from up North, guys like Ben Rowe, Johnny Clark and Cassius Clark, want to come down and race at Concord and beat the Southern guys at one of their best tracks.”
Other support divisions for the second-annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown will be announced in upcoming announcements.
